Precursors of Urinary 11-Oxy-17-Ketosteroids. II. Allo-3α-tetrahydrocortisol1

Abstract
The role of allo-3α-tetrahydrocortisol (ATHF) as a precursor of 11-hydroxy- and 11-ketoandrosterone was investigated by intravenous administration of 3H-labeled ATHF to 6 human subjects. The conversion ranged from less than 0.8 to 7.4%. This suggests that ATHF does not contribute significantly to urinary 5α,11-oxy-17-ketosteroids, and that 11-hydroxyandrosterone may be used to estimate the production of 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione, either from the quantity of OHA excreted, or, more definitively, from production rate calculations based on the simultaneous injection of labeled cortisol and 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione.
