Abstract
A previously described method for the rapid culture of M. tuberculosis in semi-solid agar media was used for the performance of drug sensitivity tests. A preliminary reading can be made in two days. Drug-sensitive and drug-resistant strains are quite easily distinguishable in semi-solid media. The drug-sensitive patterns for isoniazid, streptomycin and p-aminosalicylic acid showed characteristic differences. The interpretation of drug sensitivity is influenced by the composition of the media; this difficulty can be largely overcome by the use of a standard strain for comparison.
