Cerebral phaeohyphomycosis caused by an Exophiala. species

Abstract
Summary. A 45‐year‐old woman was found to have cerebral phaeohyphomycosis caused by an Exophiala species. The portal of entry of the fungus remained unknown. Despite surgery and antimy‐cotic therapy the patient died from circulation failure. The fungus is compared to several related Exophiala species. Zusammenfassung. Eine 45jährige Frau er‐krankte an einer zerebalen Phaeohyphomykose, hervorgerufen durch eine Exophiala‐Art. Die Ein‐trittspforte dieses Schwärzepilzes wurde nicht ge‐funden. Trotz chirurgischer und antimykotischer Therapie starb die Patientin an Komplikationen des großen Kreislaufs. Der Stamm wird mit einigen ver‐wandten Exophiala‐Arten verglichen.Keywords
