Abstract
Thyroidectomy reduced the weight of rat salivary glands and triiodothyronine increased it. The hypertrophy in salivary glands induced by isoproterenol was unaffected by thyroidectomy or pretreatment with triiodothyronine. Propranolol inhibited the isoproterenol-induced hypertrophy to a greater extent than phenoxybenzamine suggesting that the adrenergic receptors are primarily beta in type.
