Abstract
Adrenal Function of old patients (60 to 83 years old) has been investigated in order to search for a cortical deficiency which is not clinically evident. The following tests were performed : — the Robinson-Kepler-Power test (35 cases) ; — 17 céto-steroids in urine (100 cases) ; — at last influence of desoxycorticosterone acetate on both tests was investigated in 30 patients. The results were as follows : All the patients show an abnormal R. P. K. test and 17 cetosteroids excretion decreased. D. O. C. A. improves the R. P. K. test but does no render it negative D. O. C. A. decreases nycturia and chloride excretion, increases chloride in plasma. However 17 cetosteroids urinary excretion is not changed by D. O. C. A. Several factors are responsible in both tests. Cardiac failure and renal insufficiency influence the response in Robinson test. Gonadic involution decreases the excretion of 17 cetosteroids. However it seems possible that ageing is characterized by a decrease of adrenal cortical function. Keywords
