Abstract
There were no significant differences in faculty participants and nonparticipants in the center in autonomy, job satisfaction, or productivity. However, nonpracticing faculty members did express a decrease in satisfaction attributed to the tiring, routine job design, and practicing members were generally more often involved in scholarly research and productivity. Based on the results of this investigation, it is recommended that: 1. Studies be conducted that evaluate the effectiveness of academic-based nursing care centers in meeting their goals. 2. Replications of this study occur on a wider scale, looking at a variety of universities and colleges with academic-based nursing care centers. 3. Investigations be done studying the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the nursing educator's willingness to practice.
