Abstract
Summary: The amounts of antitoxin produced by 34 Schick-negative patients with acute viral hepatitis and 31 Schick-negative, essentially normal controls following the intramuscular injection of 50 Lf purified diphtheria toxoid were measured by titration in the skin of rabbits. The pre-Schick levels of circulating antitoxin were, on the average, significantly greater in the patients with acute hepatitis, but there was no significant difference between the subsequent qualitative pattern of production of antibody or the intensity of immunologic response of the two groups. There was no apparent relationship between the amounts of antitoxin produced and the age, severity of disease, or stage of disease in which toxoid was injected. Keywords
