Abstract
Propranolol reduces the heart rate and cardiac output during exercise, but this effect is smaller in older (50–65 yr) than in younger subjects (20-35 yr). It is suggested, therefore, that the sympathetic drive to the heart elicited by the stimulus of exercise declines with age. Keywords
