Abstract
The subject of this investigation is the relationship between the psychiatric admission rates for nine groups of immigrants and (i) their country of origin, (ii) the size of the groups, (iii) the proportions of recent immigrants, and (iv) any numerical imbalance between the sexes in the groups. Only Greek, Italian, Dutch and female German‐born immigrants had admission rates not significantly higher than those of the Australian‐born population. The size of the groups was found to be related inversely and significantly to admission rates. No significant relationship was found between the admission rates and the proportions of recent immigrants or an imbalance of sexes within the groups. Keywords
