Abstract
Teenagers in the health care setting need age-appropriate services that target risk behaviors linked to adolescent morbidity and mortality. This article reviews the rationale and strategies for establishing preventive models of adolescent health services. The health needs and barriers to care, as perceived by both adult providers and adolescent consumers, are reviewed. This literature is then used to recommend how best to convey preventive messages in today's cost-conscious environment. The importance of program evaluation is discussed in conjunction with closely examining the effectiveness of preventive care in the promotion of adolescent health. Keywords
