Abstract
The interpretation of Bromberg's measurements of absolute experimental elastic scattering cross sections for Hg with 300, 400, and 500 eV incident electrons is discussed. Both multichannel Born series and a partial wave analysis utilizing a static polarization potential are employed to discuss the results. The desirability of comparing the accurate partial wave differential cross section for the static potential with the absolute experimental cross section is pointed out. In addition it is suggested that the observed exponential behavior of the experimental cross section is the result of multiple scattering of the incident electron wave. Keywords
