Abstract
A survey of 504 pems from nine occupational categories spread across N.S.W. and Queensland indicated that counselling is widely misunderstood, but considered of value to thaw who have had experience of it. Data regarding the nature of counselling, functions and benefits/drawbacks imply a need for greater information‐spreading by the counselling profession. Pleasingly, the strongest support for counselling came from previous clients. Keywords
