Clustering Characteristics of a Migrant Community in the Core of the Primate Centre

Abstract
The settlement geography of Portuguese migrants in the primate centre is examined through six hypothetical propositions. These are that migrants have settled in discrete clusters; that the migratory pattern of all group members is similar; that the cluster exhibits common cultural traits; that the cultural traits of migrant and host differ; that cluster areas have a common character and evolution and that the migrant’s cultural overlay is evident in the physical structure of the neighbourhood. The data is derived from a 50% sample from a population of 154 households. The findings are related to those of similar studies in different geographical environments.
