Abstract
Describes the design of apparatus to investigate low-load reciprocating sliding. A novel mounting greatly reduces the errors in normal force that arise on more conventional designs of friction apparatus. By using a microcomputer-based control system detailed frictional data may be easily gathered, analysed and compared. The apparatus is cheap, and suitable for routine laboratory use. An example, illustrating the working of the apparatus, is also described. Keywords
