Evaluation of Non-lactose-fermenting Members of the Klebsiella–Enterobacter–Serratia Division: I. Biochemical Characteristics

Abstract
Use of selected biochemical media to identify and differentiate non-lactose-fermenting (NLF) members of the Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia division is described. Media of particular usefulness in addition to routine tests are the DNA-raffinose plate, 1% glucose broth with Durham tube, and a combined ornithineindole-motility tube. By this method 330 isolates of Serratia and 142 of NLF Klebsiella-Enterobacter were identified. Most of the latter (83) were found to be Enterobacter species.
