EPIDEMIC OF ADENOVIRUS TYPE 7 ACUTE CONJUNCTIVITIS IN SWIMMERS1

Abstract
An epidemic of acute conjunctivitis due to adenovirus type 7 occurred in members of a Kansas community swimming team during January 1973. The manifestations were mainly limited to the eye, although other systems were affected to a lesser degree. The epidemic investigation incriminated the local junior high school swimming pool as the source of infection since after the pool filter and chlorinator had failed, the level of chlorination was not adequately maintained.
