Mepacrine pigmentation in systemic lupus erythematosus.

Abstract
A case of mepacrine [antimalarial therapeutic] pigmentation occurring in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus was investigated by fluorescent light microscopy, GLC and analytical EM. There is strong evidence for the presence of mepacrine itself within the typical granules, which was shown by EM to be membrane bound and intracellular. Analytical EM also showed that the granules contain large quantities of Fe and smaller quantities of S.
