Abstract
We combine new near-infrared 3.42-Ό photometry withJHK data from Paper I to further probe the membership and physical characteristics of the embedded pre-main-sequence (PMS) population in the active star formation region NGC 1333-S. Our new data set covers approximately 44 per cent of the 10 x 10 arcmin2 area previously surveyed. In the current survey region we have detected 36 sources, 26 being brighter than our 5σ limiting magnitude of mL = 12.2. These 36 objects represent 45 per cent of the 80 objects detected in the same region at K. From a near-IR J — Kversus K—L colour-colour diagram we infer the evolutionary state of the stars and compare the results with those obtained from our JHK data. We additionally discuss the effect of 3.08-Όm ice absorption on photometry at 3.42 Όm for heavily embedded objects. Keywords
