Abstract
A Negro male with a pheochromocytoma and diabetes mellitus was found to have complete amelioration of the diabetic state following removal of the tumor. Despite a normal glucose tolerance test postoperatively, rapidly advancing but transient diabetic retinopathy was noted. It is suggested the advancing retinopathy was related to the effect of elevated postoperative levels of adrenocortical steroids upon the patient''s retinal vessels, which had been previously altered by secondary diabetes.
