Abstract
The prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in meat animals and cats in central Scotl and was measured by serological examination for antibody using the Sabin-Feldman dye-test. Of 250 each of cattle, sheep and pigs, 2·8, 15·2 and 9·2%, respectively, possessed significant antibody titres: 28·0% of 100 stray cats and 19·4% of 36 domiciled cats also had dye-test antibody. No significant sex or age-linked variations were observed in the prevalence of antibody. In faecal samples collected from the stray cats, 12·0% contained oocysts of Isospora (= Levineia) felis, 2·4% I. rivolta and 2·0% T. gondii. The results are compared with those of similar surveys. This publication has 24 references indexed in Scilit:
