Abstract
Simple and sensitive polarographic procedures have been developed for the determination of a group of antibilharzial organic antimony compounds. The method is based on the polarographic reduction of SbIII in the compound, using 0.1 M NaOH as a supporting electrolyte, and measurement of the wave height at E½≈–1.45 V vs. SCE. The d.c. polarograms for various sample concentrations in the range 20–120 p.p.m. were recorded and the respective calibration graphs were constructed. Log i vs. log h, logarithmic analysis and the effect of mercury height and its square root on the current were studied in order to characterise the nature of the system. Application of the method to the analysis of various pharmaceutical samples gave reproducible and accurate results. Further, the validity of the procedure was confirmed by applying the standard additions technique. The total average recovery was 100.1%.Keywords
