Abstract
Specimens of parietal pleura obtained by needle biopsy from patients with tuberculous pleurisy were cultured for tubercle bacilli. In all cases, pleura was also examined histologically and pleural fluid was cultured for tubercle bacilli. Tubercle bacilli were cultured from 55 0/0 of the pleural biopsy specimens. A histologic or bacteriologic diagnosis was made in 80 [degree]/o of the patients. This simple method appears to be the best method presently available for obtaining tubercle bacilli from patients with tuberculous pleurisy, and its routine use in such patients is recommended. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
