Abstract
The freedom one has in adjusting the coupling constants due to the uncertainties of the nuclear matter parameters-in particular, the incompressibility, and to a lesser extent the effective mass and the equilibrium density, are not accurately known-is explored in the framework of the relativistic Hartree and Hartree-Fock theory, respectively. Furthermore the influence of this freedom on the corresponding equation of state is studied in some examples. For the Lagrangian the scalar-vector theory, with and without self-interactions of the sigma meson, is used. Keywords
