Studies on the Light Scattering of Silver Bromide Particles

Abstract
A summary of the Mie theory of light scattering by spherical particles is presented in a nonmathematical form. Computations, based on the Mie theory, of the angular scattering intensities and the total scattering coefficients for silver bromide particles in water, irradiateq by light ofwavefength = 5461 Å, have been carried out for particles having radii in the range 50 to 6500 Å. The use of these functions in light scattering studies on silver bromide particles is discussed and a comparison is given between experimental data obtained on cubic and octahedral particles and those calculated theoretically for spheres of the same refractive index.
