Abstract
The plasma mucoprotein components M-l and M-2 were measured in patients with thyroid dysfunction by electrophoretic analysis at pH 4.5. Thyrotoxic patients displayed elevated levels of M-2 (averaging 300 mg.%), which declined when they became euthyroid (to 248 mg.). Myxedematous patients had low levels of M-2 (190 mg.), which increased when they became euthyroid (to 250 mg.). Changes in M-l were generally parallel to those found for M-2. The concns. of total plasma proteins generally rose with decreasing thyroidal activity and fell with increasing thyroidal activity. Keywords
