Abstract
An X-ray structural analysis has shown thorium(IV) tetrakis-(NN-diethyldithiocarbamate) to be the first example of a compound in which eight sulphur atoms are co-ordinated to a central metal atom. Crystals are monoclinic, space group C2/c with a= 19·16, b= 11·74, c= 16·11 Å, and β= 16·42°. The eight sulphur atoms co-ordinated to the thorium atom are arranged as a distorted dodecahedron in which the only symmetry is the crystallographically required two-fold axis. Keywords
