Abstract
Sudanophilic granules in P. methanica are composed largely of poly-[beta]-hydroxybutyric acid. Direct extraction of cells with chloroform, and the alkaline-hypochlorite method of releasing sudanophilic granules from bacterial cells, yield poly-[beta]-hydroxybutyric acid, and a small amount (about 8 per cent of total lipid) of an ether-soluble material consisting essentially of monopalmitin. Keywords
