STUDIES OF RAPID MELTING AND FREEZING OF3He IN HIGH MAGNETIC FIELDS

Abstract
Melting pressure vs. time traces have been obtained in a Pomeranchuk cell in magnetic fields of 2.0 and 2.5 T at varying compression rates. Zero sound attenuation measurements, which have been conducted in the cell simultaneously, were used to detect the A1 and A2 transitions of the superfluid 3He. The melting curve anomalies previously observed by Shuberth, Bakalyar and Adams /3/, have been studied. Our results support the interpretation of Yu and Anderson /6/, in which these anomalies are related to the spin transport properties of the liquid 3He
