Abstract
In a microgranulite vein of the Villefranche region, France, large poikiloblasts of orthoclase are developed, which were clearly formed by recrystallization in the solid state. The boundaries of the vein are clear-cut and parallel, the accepted criteria for emplacement in the liquid state. The question is posed whether many granites might not prove to be the result of such secondary recrystallization in the solid state of finer-grained eruptive rocks originally emplaced as magma.
