The Serologic Specificity of Crude and Purified Antigen Extracts of Escherichia Coli in Hemagglutination Reactions with Rabbit and Human Antisera

Abstract
Summary: The presence of a common antigen in crude and purified extracts of several strains of Escherichia coli has been confirmed by hemagglutination and hemagglutination inhibition. The occurrence of both O and non-O specific antibody in a human serum was demonstrated by differential absorption. Non-O specific antibody did not interfere significantly with the measurement of O specific antibody in the sera of normal or diseased patients when red cells sensitized with either pure or crude extracts were employed.
