The Particle Size Analysis of Crushed Products

Abstract
An examination is made of two particle size analyses which are typical of two categories of crushed products. One example represents material reduced in a hammer mill; subjected to indiscriminate reduction, it contains a preponderance of smaller sizes, and this is characteristic also of ball mill products and the small particles in the products of jaw, gyratory, and roll crushers. The second example illustrates the influence of the sizing action which occurs in the latter machines and results in a closer grading of the coarse particle fraction. These characteristic features are illustrated by graphs, and a mathematical basis is given for Gaudin's law of particle size distribution.
