Abstract
‘‘A workshop on low emittance beams was held at Brookhaven National Laboratory from March 20 to March 25, 1987. The workshop was held under the auspices of the International Committee on Future Accelerators (ICFA), and was intended to explore issues relating to the production of electron beams with an unprecedented combination of high charge density and low emittance. The following material is largely a result of discussions held during the workshop, and represents an attempt to estimate the severity of some of the problems which would be encountered in the design of an RF linac injector consistent with the workshop goals.’’ (AIP)
