Abstract
The photoionization efficiency curves of the sulfur molecular species generated by various solids have been measured. The ionization potentials (in electron volts) deduced are 9.36 ± 0.02 for S2, 9.68 ± 0.03 for S3, 8.60 ± 0.05 for S5, 9.00 ± 0.03 for S6, 8.67 ± 0.03 for S7, and 9.04 ± 0.03 for S8. No evidence for structures other than rings has been obtained. The threshold for dissociative ionization of S8 is in very good agreement with that deduced by earlier thermodynamic measurements. Keywords
