Abstract
Eight particular cases from a series of so-called Banti''s syndrome were contrasted with typical cases because of their normal portal pressure. Histologically, spleens of the 8 cases showed pulp hyperplasia of various grades but, unlike in typical cases of this syndrome, no evidence of sinus hyperplasia. There were changes in the lymph follicles of spleens of these cases including an increase in their population, appearance of a germinal center and hemorrhage in perifollicular areas. This paper describes the details of these findings and presents the view that these 8 cases represent an incipient phase of Banti''s syndrome. The relationship between Banti''s syndrome in its early phase and so-called primary hypersplenism is discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
