Abstract
It is shown that a deformation-dipole model more general than that of Hardy follows rigorously from Zeyher's microscopic theory of lattice dynamics of ionic crystals. In addition to the self-energy correction term due to the electric dipoles in Hardy's model, Zeyher's theory gives a similar term due to the deformation dipoles. The general shell model corresponds to a special form of the new deformation-dipole model. Keywords
