New methods of family planning: Implications for intimate behavior

Abstract
Developing new technology in contraception and family planning methods invites the question as to whether it is possible that these methods might facilitate or enhance sexual pleasure of couples. Advances in vaginal rings, microbicides and spermicides, female condoms, male condoms, and emergency contraception are reviewed from the perspective of behavioral implications. Further, preliminary data from assessments of PERSONA acceptability are presented to demonstrate that family planning methods can impact intimate behavior.
