Abstract
A new species of Lithophaga is described as a small lithophagine mussel exclusively boring Madracis mir-abilis, M. decactis and M. formosa in Jamaica. The shell, musculature and pallial glands show modifications for live coral boring similar to those of Indo-Pacific species of the genus. However, both the boring and posterior pallial glands are more primitive than other species examined to date, interpreted as indicative of a more recent adaptation to life in a living coral habitat by this species.
