Magnetic and electronic properties of CoTi1-xAlxcompounds

Abstract
The susceptibility of paramagnetic Al-rich and Ti-rich CoTi1-xAlx compounds consists of two contributions; a matrix susceptibility that becomes strongly enhanced at the Ti-rich side and a Curie-Weiss term that is ascribed to structural defects. High magnetic field (up to 350 kOe) and high pressure (up to 5 kbar) experiments point to a band-type description of the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic and paramagnetic Ti-rich compounds. The electronic contribution to the specific heat increases as one goes from CoAl to CoTi with a local minimum for the Heusler compound CoTi0.5Al0.5.
