Abstract
Twelve Shock-group rats learned to run a straight alley for 20 laps of water per trial with gradually increasing shock voltages applied on 1/2 the trials from a drinkometer tube to the metal floor. Twelve control Ss received the same treatment without shock. Two hundred and twenty-four aquisition trials and 112 extinction trials were given. Shocked Ss showed slower lap speed on shock trials during acquisition but faster lap speed during first 32 extinction trials, higher speed in leaving start box at end of acquisition, and higher goal-box speed in leaving start box at end of acquisition, and higher goal-box speed in first 32 extinction trials. These results confirmed theoretical expectations. Keywords
