Effect of Prefeeding, Alcohol and Bitters on Food Intake of Dogs

Abstract
The tendency of the dog to ingest a constant average daily volume of food was not significantly modified, in short-term expts., by feeding small portions of sucrose soln., cream, soln. of casein hydrolysate, alcohol or bitters 20 min. before the regular feeding. Larger quantities of cream or sucrose soln. produced slight depression of food intake, probably attributable to gastric distention. The physiological release of enterogastrone is apparently not involved in the production of satiety.
