Abstract
Two hundred twenty-three patients newly admitted to 10 nursing homes rated a 20-item scale listing potential stresses in the institution. Results were factor analyzed and factor scores were intercorrelated with the descriptive, attitudinal, psychological, and physical status of the patients. Five factors emerged which related in significant ways to psychological and physical variables. The Stresses in Institutional Care Scale is a useful tool for admission screening in nursing homes. Keywords
