Effect of Exogenous Serotonin on LH-RH Secreting Neurons in the Guinea Pig Hypothalamus as Revealed by Immunofluorescence

Abstract
In normal and gonadectomized guinea pigs, anterior hypothalamic neurons contain an amount of immunoreactive substance insufficient to react with anti-LH-RH serum. After the injection of exogenous serotonin into the lateral ventricle, a dispersed population of anterior hypothalamic neurons is filled with an LH-RH immunoreactive substance. This storage is probably mediated via inhibition of LH-RH release.
