Abstract
A distinction between sharp and diffuse interlopers is parametrized by quantum-defect analysis. Increasing level density at the approach to an ionization threshold drives all interlopers into the diffuse class. The relevance of this behavior to the quasi-Landau states in the spectra of excitations in a magnetic field is indicated. Keywords
