Hypothermia

Abstract
THE clinical signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia have been repeatedly described1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and correlated with cerebral arteriovenous blood sugar differences.3 We have been impressed by an additional useful bedside sign, moderate hypothermia, associated with both obvious and unsuspected subnormal blood sugar levels. Although hypothermia has been mentioned in patients with profound hypoglycemic coma1 2 3 it has not previously been emphasized as a finding in mild clinical or asymptomatic hypoglycemia. Short abstracts of 5 cases are presented to illustrate the importance of recognizing hypothermia as indicative of hypoglycemia in the absence of profound coma or other symptoms suggestive of subnormal blood sugar.
