The Slow Bactericidal Effect of Tetracycline and Minocycline on Wall-Defective Staphylococcus

Abstract
Tetracycline and minocycline have a slow bactericidal effect upon both parent Staphylococcus aureus and variants with defective cell walls. Flasks containing between 5 × 105 and 5 × 106 wall-defective staphylococci were sterilized within seven to nine days if the concentration of either antibiotic was maintained at 10–500 times the minimal inhibitory concentration.
