Abstract
The nonlinear phase shift which accompanies a large-amplitude electron plasma wave on a collisionless plasma column is demonstrated experimentally. The spatial evolution of the phase shift and the wave-number shift in a position-asymptotic limit are shown to be consistent with recent nonlinear theory. Keywords
