Abstract
This is a survey of the theoretical and empirical models of location choice and land use in cities. The survey is conducted from a historical perspective and the models are critically evaluated in terms of their logical structure. Special attention is given to the technical difficulties created when the assumption of the convexity of the production technology is dropped. It is indicated why further progress in this area requires a fundamental rethinking of the way in which we conceptualize the behavior of individual location choice.Keywords
