SUDDEN INFANT DEATH AND INFANTICIDE

Abstract
Kukull, W. A., and D. R. Peterson (School of Public Hearth and Community Medicine, U. of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195). Sudden infant death and infanticide. Am J Epidemiol 106:485–486, 1977. The hypothesis, advanced by Asch (Mt Sinai J Med NY 35:214–220, 1968), that a majority of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) cases are actually infanticides, is addressed by examination of age comparable infant homicide rates (United States, 1950–1974) and consideration of current theory regarding SIDS pathogenesis. The analysis provides no support for the hypothesis.
