Abstract
Issues of sameness and change in a human life and its pattern of order and disorder have long intrigued the human imagination. In existing studies, cross-sectional contrasts of lifecycle order have pointed to the changeability of existence while longitudinal studies have pointed its stability. Genotypic and phenotypic distinctions are raised as they relate to life-cycle change and the difficulty of understanding findings which suggest stability in the face of change. Literature is cited which relates to personality and life-style changes and to retrospective accounting.
