The Influence of Task Success on Elderly Women's Interest in New Activities

Abstract
A home intervention program was designed for noninstitutionalized elderly women in which they completed a nominal, but meaningful task. When compared to a group that was not visited, these women were found to have increased their interest in new activities. Simple social visitation to a separate group produced no positive effects and lowered interest in some activities. Implications for social programs are discussed.
